Gifts

In Germany, presents are traditionally opened on the evening of 24 December. In many other countries, such as the UK or the United States, gifts are opened on the morning of 25 December.

Traditions differ:

• 24 December in Germany
• 25 December in many English-speaking countries
• 6 January in parts of Spain and Italy

In Italy, Babbo Natale brings gifts at Christmas. On 6 January, the kind-hearted La Befana also brings small treats, especially for children.

In Sweden, gifts are delivered by the Jultomte — a friendly Christmas gnome often accompanied by small helpers known as Tomten.

Traditionally, the Three Kings bring presents on 6 January. Increasingly, however, Papá Noel also brings gifts on 24 or 25 December.
